HDR Houston: San Jacinto Monument

Here are some somewhat-recent photos of the 567-foot tall San Jacinto Monument near Houston – which commemorates the Battle of San Jacinto.

Lots of interesting stories exist about this battle… I’m just learning about it as I leave Texas…

  1. Nice pictures! I love the dramatic prospective! You must have an awesome lens and awesome photography skills! By the way, I am Taiwanese and I am confident to say that you will be heading into a nice country, hope you like it!

  2. Thanks for the comments! I do have a pretty nice camera – a Nikon DSLR. It’s been quite the hobby to get into lately – I partly bought it because I knew I’d be moving to Taiwan.

As for Taiwan… I leave in two weeks from today!

I’m expecting to really enjoy the experience…

    • Hi Joshua! Nikon DSLR! It must be nice! I love photography too, but i think we both know that it is actually a pretty expensive hobby, especially the lenses… :P I might get a Nikon too if i start to learn photography in September.

I am actually amazed that there are Americans who would want to live in Taiwan! Don’t get me wrong though, it just that Taiwan isn’t one of the well know “hotpot” to live.

If you need any help when you get there, or anything. I will try to do my best to help! stephan.wu@gmail.com

      • Thanks – I’ll keep that in mind. Are you in Taiwan now?

I’ve always been interested in living in Asia… my girlfriend grew up in Jhubei City in Hsinchu County, so I decided to move to Taiwan over Korea because of her.

I think I’ll like the fact that it’ll be a lower cost of living than Korea… a lot like Houston – which is a great place, but not as “trendy” as New York – which is too expensive for me!

That first photo of yours of the monument is awesome – quite mesmerizing. Welcome to Taiwan next month. If you want to add your blog to Cruisy – a new site of mine for foreigners in Taiwan, feel free. It would be interesting to see your experiences as you begin your life here (and to see the photos you take). Check out the Blogs page at http://www.cruisy.com.tw/blogs.jsp and click on the “Contribute” link at the bottom of the page to find out more info.
